This project involved the complete renovation for a restaurant group expanding into the fast casual market. We collaborated closely with the client to develop a cohesive aesthetic for their new Japanese restaurant concept.
Japanese architecture and design hold special significance for our firm, as one of our partners was born and raised in Tokyo. This personal connection informed our approach to creating an authentic yet contemporary dining environment.
The restaurant design is organized into two distinct zones: the front area optimized for quick service and ordering, and the rear dining area featuring booth seating for groups seeking a more traditional dining experience.
In the front area, we designed two types of custom seating solutions. The first is a J-shaped booth configuration that carves out the space to naturally separate dining areas from the queuing zone. The second are mini-booths designed as an intimate two-person experience that are seamlessly integrated with the wall trim design, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese shoji screen aesthetics.
This thoughtful spatial organization and authentic design vocabulary creates a dining experience that honors Japanese culture while meeting the operational needs of a modern fast casual restaurant.
