ARCHITECTS
About Us

swrl studio is a full-service architecture practice based in Philadelphia, founded in 2024 by Francesca Carney and David Harrop. As a husband-and-wife team, we have been collaborating since our undergraduate studies in 2011. Together, we bring our diverse professional experience across residential, commercial, education, museums, and healthcare sectors to deliver architecture and design services for meaningful projects.
OUR VALUES

The name swrl represents the dynamic convergence of function, meaning, and ideas—the creative intersection where we believe exceptional design derives. This reflects our commitment to synthesis over separation, weaving together practical needs with deeper purpose to create a mindful and intentional architecture.

Diversity of thought and perspective is fundamental to our practice. As partners, we recognize that the richest design solutions emerge when different viewpoints, experiences, and ideas come together in meaningful dialogue. We actively seek this multiplicity of voices—within our team, with our clients, and throughout our communities—understanding that architecture at its best reflects the full spectrum of human experience.
OUR APPROACH

We believe architecture should be a mindful practice, rooted in harmony and intentionality. Our approach prioritizes meaning at every stage, ensuring that each space we create is thoughtful, balanced, and inspiring.
Through deep listening and collaborative dialogue with our clients, we translate aspirations into buildings and spaces that foster connection, presence, and purpose. We understand that exceptional design emerges from genuine partnership—taking time to understanding not just functional needs, but the deeper vision and values that drive each project.
Our work is guided by the belief that architecture has the power to transform daily experience. We design spaces that respond to both practical requirements and human spirit, creating spaces that feel authentic, purposeful, and alive. Whether we work on residential, commercial, or institutional projects, we bring the same commitment to craft, context, and community.
We believe the spaces we design should come to life—uplifting, enduring, and enriching those who experience them. This philosophy drives us to create architecture that serves not just immediate needs but con tributes meaningfully to the broader fabric of place and community.
We seek to create considered and valued spaces at any scale. We take great care to ensure the goals of our clients are met through considered conversations and iterative design to deliver on the intentions set forth by the client. Even though every project comes with its set of challenges, we pride ourselves in our ability to creatively approach those challenges. Finaly, we enjoy developing the parameters and interpretations to meet the project goals.
